n2y® Launches L3 Skillsâ„¢ Engaging and Relevant Activities Promote LifeLong Learning in Students with Special Needs
Research has shown the positive impact learning games can have on student engagement and retention. Some of the biggest names in learning psychology, including Jean Piaget and Jerome Bruner, believe that the best way to teach children is through hands-on, active learning. However, most of the active-learning educational games online cannot be utilized in special education classrooms. L3 Skills changes that by enabling learners outside of the general education spectrum to play, develop and achieve academic and transition success in a safe and appropriate environment.
“We heard from teachers and parents that they want educational games and activities that are designed specifically to the needs and benefits of their students with special needs,” explained Chrissy Wostmann, n2y president. “The activities in L3 Skills are designed to provide real-world awareness and to build confidence in learners of all ages and abilities. These games and activities were created by educators, for educators—and deliver new innovative and effective hands-on learning opportunities for special education.”
Activities include traditional foundational learning areas such as language arts and math, and also include vital life skills and fine motor development skills. Through L3 Skills’ differentiated instruction, students receive practical, hands-on experience with learning and life-building skills in a proven and effective way. “Most importantly,” Wostmann continued, “L3 Skills provides activities that are respectful of a learner’s age, regardless of his or her academic ability.”
L3 Skills not only assists with cognitive skill development but also with auto-reflexive and non-cognitive skills such as attention to task, understanding start to finish and the concept of working for rewards. Available on all mobile devices, L3 Skills can be used in the classroom, home, or other facilities.
L3 Skills seamlessly integrates with other n2y solutions, or as a stand-alone product to integrate academic and transition skill practice.
